Baseball Recap: Crestline Comes Up Short

Crestline extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-10 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mansfield Christian Flames. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Flames apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Dawson Hefner was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kordaie Robinson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Logan Mott, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Mansfield Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

On Mansfield Christian's side, the team relied heavily on JR Reeder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Reeder is becoming a predictor of the Flames' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-7 when he doesn't). Gavin Webb was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Crestline beat Mansfield Christian by a score of 14-2 later that day.
