Football Game Preview: Georgetown Eagles vs. Leander Lions

Georgetown is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Leander Lions will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While Georgetown's win against Copperas Cove wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles skirted past the Bulldawgs 35-32. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bulldawgs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Georgetown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jett Walker, who rushed for 105 yards and a pair of scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb McDougle, who threw for 216 yards and two TDs while completing 78.9% of his passes.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Leander faced off against Del Valle two weeks ago. The Lions blew past the Cardinals 43-14.

Georgetown better keep an eye on Ke'Marion Gordon. He was instrumental in Leander's win, rushing for 167 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Gordon a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Mason Montgomery, who threw for 200 yards and a pair of TDs.

Leander's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Georgetown, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Georgetown couldn't quite finish off Leander in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 and fell 38-35. Thankfully for the Eagles, Logan Mitchell (who rushed for 102 yards and three scores, and also threw for 261 yards on 15 of 26 attempts) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
