Game recap

Fort Lupton (Colo.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 34-18 win over Sterling (Colo.).

The Blue Devils put up seven points in the opening frame. Fort Lupton scored on a touchdown run by Jeff Merritt.

FL was up 14-6 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter.

The Blue Devils expanded their lead to 22 points entering the fourth quarter. Fort Lupton scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.

Merritt stood out for FL in the win. The junior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.

The Tigers' Brendan Diaz played well. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to three on the year.

The Blue Devils got revenge for last year's 29-13 loss to Sterling with the victory.

The victory was a step in the right direction for Fort Lupton, which was coming off a 47-15 defeat at the hands of Platte Valley in its previous game. The loss comes after Sterling defeated University 20-6 last week.

In a 2A Patriot game next week Sterling (3-4) takes on Brush, and Fort Lupton (2-5) will go up against University also in a 2A Patriot game.
