Basketball Recap: Norton Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Norton entered their tilt with Ellis on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 35-28 victory over the Ellis Railroaders. Given the Bluejays' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Railroaders are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Norton can attribute much of their success to Rylen Murray, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dominic Vahling, who posted nine points.

When it comes to explaining why Ellis lost, don't look at Jaren Frickey. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points.

Norton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Ellis, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Norton Bluejays duke it out with the Colby Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Norton is on a three-game streak of home wins, Colby a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Ellis, they will head out to square off against Russell at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
