Spearville is 9-1 against Stanton County since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Lancers will take on the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Spearville took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Skyline, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lancers skirted past the Thunderbirds 10-8.
Madison McGee was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Morghyn Rucker, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Spearville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Stanton County came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Larks with a sharp 12-2 win. That's two games straight that the Trojans have won by exactly ten runs.
The team relied heavily on Summer Kendrick, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Ella Krier was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Spearville's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-6. As for Stanton County, their record now sits at 17-3.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Spearville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Stanton County struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Spearville's way against Stanton County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Spearville made off with a 16-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
