Russell County hasn't had much luck against Rockcastle County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lakers will head out on the road to take on the Rockets at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Russell County took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Metcalfe County get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lakers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Addison Hart made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylen McGowan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addy Abrell, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Russell County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Metcalfe County only posted a batting average of .000.
While Rockcastle County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-27), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Lincoln County 11-2 on Thursday. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Sydney Holcomb looked comfortable as she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Rockcastle County got a big performance out of Addi Lovell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Clara Shaffer also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Rockcastle County pushed their record up to 11-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Russell County, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Russell County suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Rockcastle County in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
