Softball Game Preview: York Dukes vs. Downers Grove South Mustangs

The York Dukes will challenge the Downers Grove South Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in York's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Downers Grove South has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

York is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since May 3rd on Monday. They came up short against Hinsdale Central, falling 14-4.

Emily McNichols was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, it was a classic North v. South duel when Downers Grove South took on Downers Grove North on Thursday. The Mustangs lost 13-3 to the Trojans.

Jacklyn Meyers and Victoria Colorato did some serious damage despite the final result: Meyers went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Colorato went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

Downers Grove South's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16. As for York, their loss dropped their record down to 19-11.

York's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Dukes have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Downers Grove South, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will York continue to outrun the ball?

York skirted past Downers Grove South 8-7 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Dukes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
