Basketball Recap: Merryville Takes a Loss

Merryville lost against Hamilton Christian back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Merryville Panthers were outmatched by the Hamilton Christian Warriors and fell 84-40. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while the Warriors are ranked 88th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hamilton Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Javon Vital, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. Vital is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Justin Weston was another key player, going 6-for-9 en route to 13 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Merryville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 16 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-21-2 record this season. As for Hamilton Christian, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-7.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers challenge the Lions on February 20th. Hamilton Christian will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Archbishop Rummel at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st.
