Softball Recap: Dani Wilson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Leigh

Gilroy put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Leigh Longhorns a 17-0 shutout. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.

Ariela Yslava made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Dani Wilson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bela Sousa, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

Gilroy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Gilroy's record now sits at 5-3. As for Leigh, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilroy will welcome Branham at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leigh, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Santa Teresa at 4:00 p.m. Santa Teresa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
