Basketball Game Preview: George West Longhorns vs. Taft Greyhounds

The George West Longhorns and the Taft Greyhounds will compete for holiday cheer at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

George West is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Zapata just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 50-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Longhorns have suffered since December 28, 2023.

Meanwhile, Taft took a blow against Ingleside on Tuesday, falling 78-40. The Greyhounds haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Taft's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for George West, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

George West ended up a good deal behind Taft in their previous matchup back in January, losing 86-68. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Taft's Jordan Villalobos, who went 11 for 21 on his way to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.
