Basketball Recap: Waco Takes a Loss

Waco and Midlothian Heritage squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Waco had to settle for second. They fell to the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars 49-45. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Jaguars are ranked 148th).

Despite the loss, Waco still got an impressive performance from Shamiah Taylor, who went 10 of 22 to rack up 29 points. Taylor's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 28 points. Ka'Mauri Jones was another key player, putting up seven points.

Among those leading the charge was Ava Batty, who posted 19 points. Another player making a difference was Riley Menicucci, who earned eight points.

Waco's defeat dropped their record down to 11-19. As for Midlothian Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 25-10 record this season.

Waco does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Midlothian Heritage, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Jaguars face off against the Panthers on Thursday. Hillcrest will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Midlothian Heritage surely won't give up without a fight.
