Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Bishop

Bishop waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tuloso-Midway Warriors & Cherokees an 8-0 shutout. Considering the Badgers have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Cambrie Rios, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Tuloso-Midway off the board. Rios has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jasmine Ramirez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Leah Gutierrez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Bishop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Bishop's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.83 strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Tuloso-Midway, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-6-1 record.

Bishop and Tuloso-Midway should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Bishop (ranked 84th) will meet San Diego (ranked 511th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. Similarly, Tuloso-Midway will face off against King at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th up 475 places (217 vs. 692).
