Football Recap: Southridge Starts Season with Victory Against Goleman + How To Watch

Southridge had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the Goleman Gators for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-22 win. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Gators are ranked 196th) , the win on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Perrone, who threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 40 yards and a pair of TDs. Travis Gamble Jr was another key rusher, rushing for 112 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Southridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Antonio Wilcher Jr., Jean Calixte, Tyree Graham, and Jahkari Bromell picked up one apiece.

When it comes to explaining why Goleman lost, don't look at Antwain Easterling. Despite the final result, he rushed for 95 yards and two TDs on only seven carries. Easterling's longest rush was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Kari Love-Laidler also helped out with an impressive 108 receiving yards.

Goleman's record now sits at 1-1.

Southridge has already played their next game, a 34-24 victory against Palmetto on the 4th. As for Goleman, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-13 win against American on the 4th.
