Basketball Recap: Brookside Skates Past Black River with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brookside). They breezed by the Black River Pirates to the tune of 62-23 on Saturday. The Cardinals pushed the score to 51-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirates had little chance of recovering from.

Brookside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Diaz, who went 9 of 17 en route to 22 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Diaz has scored at least a third of Brookside's points. Another player making a difference was Markie Aliff, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Brookside was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Brookside has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Black River, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Brookside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-29 defeat against Firelands on the 8th. Black River has also already played their next matchup, a 52-37 loss against Oberlin on the 8th.
