Basketball Recap: Woodford County Takes a Loss

Woodford County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-64 heartbreaker at the hands of the Aiken Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 28th in Kentucky, while the Falcons are ranked fifth in Ohio).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Aiken to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Burnett Jr., who went 9 for 16 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Arnold, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 18 points.

Woodford County's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Aiken, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.

Woodford County has already played their next match (against Taylor County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Aiken will square off against Western Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Aiken has won eight straight at home, while Western Hills won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
