The Western Warriors will take on the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Western has given up an average of 16.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Western turned things around against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus on Tuesday. They skirted past the Blue Knights 18-17. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Olysia Ortiz was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Natalie Tapia, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Ortiz wasn't the only one making solid contact: Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Virgin Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Mater Academy East Las Vegas by a score of 9-8.
Virgin Valley got a big performance out of Hayden Owsley, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Davie Slack, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
Western's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-9. As for Virgin Valley, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Western has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Virgin Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
