Gabi Winters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Morgan Tucker was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Standard, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Estero finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They fell just short of Neumann by a score of 3-1. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Annika Jarvi was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits.
Mariner pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Estero, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Estero's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Mariner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Estero, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Mariner keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Mariner skirted past Estero 4-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will the Tritons repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
