Softball Game Preview: Douglas Bulldogs vs. Mica Mountain Thunderbolts

The Douglas Bulldogs will take on the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mica Mountain took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Douglas, who comes in off a win.

Douglas lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Safford, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. Douglas put the hurt on Safford with a sharp 11-4 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for Douglas, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Mica Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Ironwood Ridge.

Shaylee Fuell was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Caeli Shellenbarger was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Mica Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of six games) when they post two or more strikeouts.

Douglas has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Mica Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
