Softball Recap: Gorham Fayette Eagles vs. Edon Bombers
Gorham Fayette extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They came up short against the Edon Bombers, falling 19-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bombers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-5 back in April.
Gorham Fayette saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Willow Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
As for Edon, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-14. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On Edon's side, Makayla Anspaugh was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Anspaugh has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Edon got a massive performance out of Allyson Derck, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Derck a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Smith, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and two RBI.
Gorham Fayette does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Edon, they will venture away from home to square off against Hilltop at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cadets will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Bombers surely won't give up without a fight.
