Softball Game Preview: Hillcrest Huskies vs. Kearns Cougars

Hillcrest is 1-9 against Kearns since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Huskies will challenge the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hillcrest has ten straight wins, Kearns has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Hillcrest got the win against Cottonwood by a conclusive 20-2. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Hillcrest got a massive performance out of Bailey Terry, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave Terry a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Savil Hughes, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI.

Hillcrest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cottonwood only posted an OBP of .368.

Meanwhile, Kearns came up short against Hunter on Friday, falling 19-2.

Hillcrest pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Kearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

Hillcrest skirted past Kearns 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
