Baseball Recap: Derby Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Watertown, Derby was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Crosby Bulldogs, sneaking past 9-7. The victory continues a trend for the Red Raiders in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.

Vincent Nuzzo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Derby is 5-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise. Nuzzo was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Isaac McNeill and Brooklyn Fernandez did most of the damage at the plate: McNeill went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Fernandez went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Derby is undefeated when McNeill posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. D.J. Anroman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Derby's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Crosby, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Derby will square off against rival Wolcott at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Crosby is set to challenge their familiar foe Seymour at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
