Softball Game Preview: Sullivan County Griffins vs. Millville Quakers

Sullivan County and Millville are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Griffins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Quakers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sullivan County has six straight wins, Millville has 13 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Sullivan County made easy work of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech and carried off a 25-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Griffins, who have now won eight games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Emilia Viveiros made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Viveiros was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Miley Dickinson was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Kayla Fowler was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five runs and two RBI.

Sullivan County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .439. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia Montour Vo-Tech only posted a batting average of .273.

Meanwhile, Millville fell victim to Northwest Area and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 19-0 to the Rangers.

Sullivan County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Millville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.

Everything went Sullivan County's way against Millville in their previous meeting back in March, as Sullivan County made off with a 24-3 win. Do the Griffins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Quakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
