Preview: Byrd Yellow Jackets vs. Captain Shreve Gators
Byrd is 0-10 against Captain Shreve since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Byrd Yellow Jackets will look to defend their home court against the Captain Shreve Gators at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Byrd, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 81-63 loss to Natchitoches Central. While losing is never fun, Byrd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 1082nd, while Natchitoches Central is ranked 24th).
Meanwhile, Captain Shreve put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Haughton, posting a 56-22 victory at home. The victory was familiar territory for Captain Shreve who now have three in a row.
Captain Shreve's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marcus Lofton led the charge by scoring 12 points. Another player making a difference was Ejoshua Mcdonald, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Byrd's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Captain Shreve, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.
Byrd took a serious blow against Captain Shreve in their previous matchup back in January, falling 59-27. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mcdonald, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
