Softball Game Preview: Oswego Panthers vs. Sycamore Spartans

The Oswego Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Sycamore Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oswego will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Oswego made easy work of Oswego East and carried off a 13-2 win. Considering the Panthers have won 23 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Aubriella Garza made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rikka Ludvigson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Oswego kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Sycamore didn't have quite enough to beat Morris last Wednesday and fell 3-2.

Oswego pushed their record up to 31-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sycamore, their defeat dropped their record down to 24-5-1.

Oswego came out on top in a nail-biter against Sycamore in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
