Recap: Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils vs. Riverdale Country Falcons
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils walked away with it. They walked away with a 21-14 win over Riverdale Country on Friday. The win was familiar territory for Poly Prep Country Day who now have five in a row.
Poly Prep Country Day had a senior duo take command as Marco Smith rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries and Trent Winston rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Winston's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Riverdale Country lost, one person who can't be blamed is James Spiegel. Despite the final result, he rushed for 107 yards on only 14 carries, and also threw for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Spiegel hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games.
Poly Prep Country Day's victory was their third straight at home , which pushed their record up to 5-3. Even more impressive is the teams they beat to make that streak: Riverdale Country, Morristown-Beard, and Rye Country Day. As for Riverdale Country, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Poly Prep Country Day will take on Rye Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rye Country Day will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Poly Prep Country Day is ranked 38th). Riverdale Country does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
