Basketball Recap: Guilford Park Sets Scoring Season-High Against Howard

Guilford Park scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They lost to the Howard Lions on the road by a 76-62 margin. While losing is never fun, the Panther can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Lions are ranked 53rd).

Howard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Griffin Garner led the charge by going 8 for 17 en route to 22 points along with seven boards and five assists. Garner's morning made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Hill, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Guilford Park is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Howard, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Guilford Park didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-43 defeat against Carver Vo-Tech on the 17th. Howard has also already played their next game, an 82-45 victory against Westminster on the 18th.
