Alleman and Quincy are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pioneers will face off against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Alleman comes in on four and Quincy on three.
Alleman's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Fulton as they made off with an 8-0 win.
Alleman got a great performance from CJ Carruthers as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cael Kuster, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Will Bowers, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Alleman hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matches.
Quincy came out on top against Seymour on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 11-0 victory.
Chase Saalborn tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Quincy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-13 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Drake Gibson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Quincy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 10-13 otherwise. Cameron Lawson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Alleman pushed their record up to 22-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Quincy, their win bumped their record up to 12-14.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alleman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Quincy struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alleman couldn't quite get it done against Quincy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
