Basketball Recap: Varina Takes a Loss

Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by the J.R. Tucker Tigers and fell 48-16. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 25-4.

Despite the defeat, Varina had strong showings from Kya Ingram, who posted seven points and four steals, and Kaliyah Straughter, who put up four points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. Ingram has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played.

Even though they lost, Varina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matches.

Varina's record now sits at 2-11. As for J.R. Tucker, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Varina will challenge Armstrong at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for J.R. Tucker, they will square off against Freeman at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
