Basketball Recap: Champaign Central Victorious

Champaign Central won the last time they faced Charleston and things went their way on Saturday too. The Champaign Central Maroons escaped with a win against the Charleston Trojans by the margin of a single free throw, 51-50. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Maroons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

It was another big night for Alex Parastaran, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 19 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Samara McArthur, who posted 12 points.

Champaign Central's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Charleston, they dropped their record down to 0-13 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Champaign Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-35 victory against Danville on the 28th. As for Charleston, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Neoga at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
