High school football: Fresh off monster performance, Malaki Dowell of Tennessee leads national rushing yardage leaders

White County running back piled up 472 yards, seven touchdowns last week.

Senior running back Malaki Dowell of White County (Sparta, Tenn.) has been unstoppable over the past two weeks, piling up 818 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground to surge to the top of the national rushing yardage leaderboard.

Against Station Camp on Sept. 2, Dowell ran 24 times for 346 yards and five touchdowns. A week later, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound back one-upped himself with 34 carries for 472 yards and seven scores in a 59-54 win (highlights in the video). White County is 4-0 on the season thanks in part to his efforts.

As a junior, Dowell ran for 2,029 yards and 22 touchdowns en route to Region 5-5A most valuable player honors. He was a semifinalist for Tennessee Mr. Football.
