Baseball Game Preview: St. Joseph Academy Flashes vs. Matanzas Pirates

The St. Joseph Academy Flashes will venture away from home to challenge the Matanzas Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Joseph Academy has three straight victories, Matanzas has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, St. Joseph Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Ponte Vedra. They came out on top against the Sharks by a score of 6-3.

St. Joseph Academy got a great performance from Jacob Guthmiller as he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, Dayton Taylor was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Camden Biskup also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

St. Joseph Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Matanzas started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Father Lopez. They came up short against the Green Wave on Friday, falling 12-2.

Matanzas saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paul Trettner, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Matanzas' loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for St. Joseph Academy, their record is now 6-1.
