Softball Recap: Forks Spartans vs. Coupeville Wolves
Forks was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 6-2 to the Coupeville Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 on Saturday.
Bailey Johnson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Gaydeski, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Forks' defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Coupeville, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Forks will host Ilwaco at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fishermen will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coupeville, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Orcas Island at 3:00 p.m. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Wolves will no doubt try to take advantage of.
