Baseball Recap: Griffith Comes Up Short

Griffith extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping them down to 5-10. They lost 16-0 to the Morgan Township Cherokees. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cherokees apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2017.

Griffith saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jason Quillin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Morgan Township, their record is now 11-8. Considering they have won six games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Morgan Township's side, Noah Ladra was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Ladra has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Drew Horvath was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Cal Lemmons also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Griffith didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-7 victory against Whiting on the 12th. As for Morgan Township, they have also already played their next matchup, a 12-4 win against Glenn on the 12th.
