Baseball Recap: Griffith Takes a Loss

Griffith extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping them down to 5-11. They came up short against the Morgan Township Cherokees, falling 16-0. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cherokees apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2017.

Griffith saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jason Quillin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Morgan Township, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Morgan Township's side, Noah Ladra was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Ladra has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Drew Horvath was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nolan Ritthaler, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Griffith will square off against Whiting at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morgan Township, they will head out to face off against Tri-Township at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
