Basketball Recap: Brodie Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Battle Mountain over Yerington

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Battle Mountain can now relate to. They fell 78-68 to the Yerington Lions on Thursday. The Longhorns have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Battle Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brodie Smith, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 19 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Abraham Nevarez, who went 7-for-15 en route to 15 points and eight steals.

Battle Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Yerington, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-11.

Battle Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Yerington, they have already played their next game, a 72-47 loss against Incline on the 14th.
