Recap: Hobbs Eagles vs. Cleveland Storm
The Hobbs Eagles pushed their score all the way to 78 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Cleveland at home by a decisive 92-78 margin. While losing is never fun, Hobbs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Cleveland is ranked second).
When it comes to explaining why Hobbs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Abraham Pe?a. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with six assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Malakhi David, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Hobbs' defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Cleveland, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobbs will face off against Artesia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cleveland, they will head out on the road to square off against Volcano Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Volcano Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 contests -- so hopefully Cleveland likes a good challenge.
