Football Recap: Mt. Zion Prep Academy Takes a Loss

Mt. Zion Prep Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-9. They lost 33-13 to Cornerstone Christian. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mt. Zion Prep Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 44th in Maryland, while Cornerstone Christian is ranked 246th in Texas).

As for Cornerstone Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.3 points over those games.

Cornerstone Christian found their leader in sophomore Jaylen McKane, who rushed for 126 yards and one TD. Cornerstone Christian is 4-1 when McKane posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mt. Zion Prep Academy will square off against Riverdale Baptist at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cornerstone Christian, they will face off against Liberal Arts & Science Academy - Austin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will be up against the Raptors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40.13 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
