Basketball Game Preview: James Irwin Jaguars vs. St. Mary's Pirates

The James Irwin Jaguars just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the St. Mary's Pirates at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Irwin has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with eight straight defeats, while St. Mary's will come in with three straight wins.

James Irwin is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Thomas MacLaren School on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. James Irwin came up short against Thomas MacLaren School, falling 69-45.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely St. Mary's strategy against Woodland Park on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that St. Mary's blew Woodland Park out of the water with a 60-33 final score. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

St. Mary's found their leader in freshman Kisean Dawson, who to rack up 15 points and six rebounds. Jeremiah Starr was another key player, putting up 16 points.

St. Mary's was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodland Park only six assists.

James Irwin's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for St. Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.

James Irwin didn't have too much breathing room in their match against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 62-58 win.
