Football Recap: Jack Doherty Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Tappan Zee

Walter Panas took a 29-point defeat the last time they faced off against Tappan Zee, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 26-23 victory over the Dutchmen on Saturday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walter Panas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Doherty, who rushed for 108 yards and three scores. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Doherty a new career-high. Declan Fleming was another key pass catcher, picking up 112 receiving yards and one touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Walter Panas' defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Doherty and Jonathan Guglielmo, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Walter Panas now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Tappan Zee, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

Walter Panas has already played their next game, a 21-12 win against Poughkeepsie on the 3rd. As for Tappan Zee, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 22-21 defeat against Peekskill on the 3rd.
