Softball Game Preview: Sullivan Redskins vs. Meridian Hawks

Sullivan is 0-10 against Meridian since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Redskins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Sullivan will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

On Tuesday, Sullivan needed a bit of extra time to put away Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond. They had just enough and edged out the Knights 13-12.

The team relied heavily on Harmony Ray, who went 3-for-6 with one home run and three RBI. Taylar Mercer was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two runs.

Ray wasn't the only one making solid contact: Sullivan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The Redskins are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Meridian unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Sangamon Valley/Tri-City by a score of 3-2. The contest marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meridian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madi Kapchinske, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Sullivan's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-6. As for Meridian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sullivan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Meridian struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
