Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Freeburg's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

Freeburg won the last time they faced Salem and things went their way on Thursday too. The Midgets had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 2-1.

Freeburg had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-14.

Freeburg found their leader in sophomore Sophia Zipfel, who had five aces and three digs. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for Zipfel. Anna Rarick also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Salem's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kale Benjamin, who had 13 digs, and Morgan Kurwicki, who had eight digs.

Freeburg is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season. As for Salem, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-10.

Freeburg has already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Mt. Vernon on the 18th. As for Salem, they will square off against Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
