Baseball Recap: Oakland Comes Up Short

After flying high against North Douglas on Friday, Oakland came back down to earth. The Oakers came up short against the Myrtle Point Bobcats on Monday, falling 21-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Oakers of the 6-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Oakland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Vanassche, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Oakland has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Myrtle Point, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Oakland will face off against Umpqua Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Monarchs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Oakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Myrtle Point, they will host Eddyville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
