Baseball Recap: Sitka Picks Up 12th Consecutive Victory

Sitka faced Ketchikan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolves put the hurt on the Kings with a sharp 24-0 victory. Considering the Wolves have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Caleb Calhoun was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sitka got a massive performance out of Chance Coleman, who went 4-for-6 with seven RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave Coleman a new career-high. Josh Gluth was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Sitka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win (which was Sitka's 12th in a row) raised their record to 15-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ketchikan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sitka beat the Kings by a score of 16-0 later that day.
