Softball Recap: Putnam Clippers vs. Ledyard Colonels

Putnam extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They lost 23-4 to the Ledyard Colonels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Clippers of the 14-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2018.

Putnam saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Summers, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Ledyard, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-3. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Ledyard's side, Kyra Manning made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Manning a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ledyard got a massive performance out of Mackenzie Caise, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Caise has posted since back in April. Pixie Hill was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Putnam does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ledyard, they will welcome Stonington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
