Vallivue and Columbia are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Vallivue Falcons will face off against the Columbia Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vallivue is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season.
Vallivue is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since December 21, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Bishop Kelly by a score of 55-53.
Vallivue's loss came about despite a quality game from Xander Wilson, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Koby Perez, who went 5-for-6 en route to 11 points.
Even though they lost, Vallivue smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Columbia entered their tilt with Caldwell on Saturday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cougars 71-43.
Columbia's win came from a few key players Vallivue will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Blake Hansen, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in steals (five). Easton Lott was another key player, going 6-for-8 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.
Vallivue's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points over those games. As for Columbia, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Vallivue has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Vallivue came up short against Columbia when the teams last played on February 6th, falling 69-59. Can Vallivue avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
