Baseball Game Preview: Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

For the second straight game, Lafayette Jefferson will face off against McCutcheon. The Bronchos will head out on the road to challenge the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette Jefferson is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Lafayette Jefferson after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of McCutcheon.

For McCutcheon's part, Reed Grimes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Grimes.

On the hitting side, Jake Winger was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for McCutcheon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 3-7 otherwise. Rhett Clarkson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

McCutcheon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Lafayette Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
