Baseball Recap: Lick-Wilmerding Tigers vs. University Red Devils
Lick-Wilmerding had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-13 to make it five. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the University Red Devils, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, with their most recent defeat being a 13-0 loss back in March.
As for University, the victory was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.
For University's part, Sabin Verplaetse looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Verplaetse has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mattie Grisso was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rohan Hartigan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
As of now, neither Lick-Wilmerding nor University have any future games scheduled.
