Basketball Game Preview: Fremont Tigers vs. Columbus Discoverers

The Fremont Tigers will be taking part in a tournament against the Columbus Discoverers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Fremont's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Columbus has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Fremont will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Lincoln Southwest, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Fremont slipped by Lincoln Southwest 58-57 on Friday.

Fremont got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zach Keaton out in front who went 6 of 14 en route to 20 points. Keaton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Maurice Bryant, who posted 11 points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, Columbus played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 79-41 defeat at the hands of Kearney. The Discoverers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-20.

Fremont will need focus on slowing down Ryder Bock, one of several Columbus players who made an impact when they last played. He earned six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Freshour, who scored six points and five assists.

The victory got Fremont back to even at 7-7. As for Columbus, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Fremont didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Columbus when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-47 win. Will Fremont repeat their success, or does Columbus have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
