Basketball Recap: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Valley Lumberjacks
The Calhoun Red Devils scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Valley 87-50 at home. The win was nothing new for Calhoun as they're now sitting on three straight.
Calhoun had a senior duo take command as Landon Bennett went 10 for 18 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 1 assist and Dylan Buckius scored 23 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bennett has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Whited, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Landen Jerico, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Jerico scored 15 or more points. Gavin Derby was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Calhoun racked up 23 assists.
The win got Calhoun back to even at 7-7. As for Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Calhoun will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Clay County is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Valley will take on the Wildcat at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wood County Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Lumberjacks in West Virginia (the Wildcat are ranked 122nd, while the Lumberjacks are ranked 804th).
