Basketball Game Preview: Grenada Chargers vs. Lafayette Commodores

Grenada is on a three-game streak of home losses, Lafayette a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Grenada Chargers will finish 2024 at home by hosting the Lafayette Commodores at 2:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Grenada turned things around against Winona on Tuesday. They strolled past the Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. The Chargers pushed the score to 51-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.

Grenada found their leader in freshman Joshua Guess, who posted nine points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Smith, who had seven points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Lafayette ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Clarksdale 63-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Commodores have posted since November 14th.

Grenada's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-11. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.

Grenada was able to grind out a solid win over Lafayette when the teams last played back in January of 2021, winning 62-52. Does Grenada have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lafayette turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
